The Honors College Community Connector app was developed by two Honors College students to get more students to go to events. In previous years, the Honors College had sent out weekly emails to students with events and resources. However, this email was long and many students skimmed over it or deleted it before reading. The Honors College wanted a way to increase student engagement for events, so they called for an app to be built.
In order to increase engagement, the app sends push notifications to students about events with topics they are interested in, and reminds them about events they register for. It displays events in a straightforward and simplistic way, and now includes other resources and announcements for honors students.
Today, the app supports all events, resources and announcements for students within the College of Engineering as well. Looking into the future, the app may expand to many more departments within Oregon State University.
